Hello!

I just got some pigeons to start my loft, and I know for a fact that I have a cock that can breed- he's made that very apparent to the ladies! However, none of the hens are sharing the feeling. About how long after you move pigeons to a new loft will they be ready to pair, and about how many days does it take to the pair? The hens just keep running from him and pecking at him once they've had enough, is there a good way to stop this? Should I take the cock and a hen and put them in a different loft to give them some alone time? Could the hens just be too young? They're about proper breeding age, but I know it can vary.

Thanks!

Do you know whether or not your pigeons were previously paired with other birds? If so it will take them a while to warm up to another mate. There is the possibility that the hens are just too young. Trust me, they will pair up and raise young.

I don't believe she was. I think they might just be too young, so I guess I've just got to wait a bit longer unfortunately.

Alright! Follow up question! My cock started sitting in his nest, so I put him in a different box with the bird I want him to mate with, but he pecked her whenever she came near! Did he mate with a different bird? I know the cock was trying to mate with the hen in the car ride home yesterday which she got fed up with, so she's pecking at him as well. Could he just be upset with her?

edit: completely off topic follow up! I have a hen that just spends a lot of the day in a dark corner, and if the other birds come near she pecks and coos at them. Is she sick? Thanks!
