New plan! (LOTS O PICS, adding them as I go)

Oh, I'm already in love! I also have names picked out already, lol. Henrietta & Clyde for my SLW's...that's what my Dad called my sister and I as kids (he really wanted boys, lol). I'm still undecided for the BR...apparently, my SO's family didn't have childhood nicknames...or at least not one he's willing to share, lol.

I'll post pics when I get home! I won't be here for a good portion of the day though.

I have my basket weaving class at 1 and won't be able to get home until after 5 (taking my SO to work so I can use the "not a stick" car with my bum shoulder)! Then, at 6, I'm going to pick up a girl friend to go catch a movie (it's $1 movie night at the Garland theater!) while my SO plays pool in his league at the home bar (luckily it's a few blocks from the theater). I'll try to be home right after the movie (9:30-10) but, I'll have to go back downtown to pick my SO up from pool when he's done and take my friend home! Yup, I have no life...unless it falls on a Wednesday, lol!

I'll also post pics of the final brooder (since the chicks will be in it), I had to switch back to the 250w red bulb, the warmest I could get it with either 100w was 85...I need to fiddle with the lamp position a little more, the temp held steady at 97 all night, but I figure I can play with it a little after I get home this morning.

GAH!!!

Stupid PO! Stupid Feed store! If you have LIVE animals come in...don't you think you should maybe CALL so they can survive?!? I got to the feed store this morning (8 minutes after they opened) to hear nothing! I asked where the chicks were and the woman working says "oh, I don't know...I guess they didn't come in"! When I was obviously not leaving until I found out when my babies would be "in", she finally called the PO to be told "I forgot to call yesterday, they've been here since about 1"!!!! In the cold?!?!?

I am so angry right now! While I was there, the store manager called and is now on her way (from home) to pick up the chicks and get them to the store...I'll be at the store at 10 to get my girls. I can only pray that the vast majority of the babies survived the incompetience of the workers at the PO & feed store (they should have called last night when they didn't get a call, the hatchery is only a 7-8 hour drive from here)!

I hope everything is all right for the babies.

Are you planning to brood them in the house?

With only three there shouldn't be too much dust.

Okay...I'm relieved and extatic (sp?) now!

My girls are now safely in my brooder, happy and starting to work out the pecking order, lol.

Here's Henrietta & Clyde! I chose the names because that's what my Dad called my sister and I growing up...they should both be girls...

And here they are in the brooder together!

Wonderful!

They are looking good in spite of the delay! No suggestions for a name for the BR but I'm sure you'll think of something. Then you can change your signature!

Such attitudes on these three! The smaller of the 2 SLWs wants nothing to do with me and took a leap from about 2 feet up to get out of my hand! She landed on the feather duster and doesn't appear injured, thankfully! The larger one pecks at my hand, lol. I think she'll end up being head of the flock...she's already pecking at the other two and trying to be the "queen of the featherduster"!

Oh I am so excited they're finally here! I forgot to answer earlier...yes, my brooder is inside the house. It's in my laundry/bath/furnace room. It's kind of a catch all room in the lower level of the house. The water heater and heating/cooling system are in there, along with the washer & dryer, and for good measure, they put a toilet & sink in too, lol.

My cats have zero interest in the "new noise" coming from that room and the dog is scared to death of the chicks! It is hillarious, she really wants to see what's in the box...but as soon as they make any noise, she runs the other direction! We had a little scare with her last night...I was trimming her nails andcut the quik on one really bad. Cornstarch was NOT helping and had to take her to the vet to have them cauterize it. She bled all over the vet's office and the house before it finally stopped! Not to mention covering me in it too...I did get a handful of Styptic stix though from the vet tech...she said I could special order them from PetCo too...

FWIW in an emergency if you dont have styptic you can use Plain old white sugar. I found this out when My son as a toddler fell and split his lip between his gums and nose inside. I thought he had knocked his four teeth out. the Emergency pediatric doc on call was Indian and she said pack it with white sugar. Wow stopped the bleeding immediately.

I have used this on my chickens as well. One of my hens lost a bicker match and had piece of her comb ripped off. I cought her and dipped her comb in sugar and Viola.... Doesnt hurt either.

Just a little OT...

Wow, I never heard of white sugar! I've heard of cornstarch and corn meal... Though, I don't keep cornmeal in the house since we can't eat it. I used maybe 1/4 cup of cornstarch and it would have done the trick if the dangdog would have not licked it off every chance she got, lol. She was doing "okay" and I was just about to say we should go home, we didn't "need" to see the vet and she saw the vet (or rather the door that goes to the exam room) and her BP spiked and she started gushing again! I guess I'll have to get some sugar (another thing I don't keep in the house), lol. The fast food places already think I'm nuts for grabbing a few packets of Splenda to go with my diet coke (I take them home to use in recipes that call for packets & for travelling)...i might as well grab a handful of sugar too, lol.

Okay, I'm off to my class...we're starting a new basket today! I think it's time I figure out the whole "blogging thing" and get this type of rant to a more permanent home! In the mean time, anyone who really wants to see all my pics of the gals and their home(s)...you can PM me and I can give you my email address for Facebook...I've gone a little nuts with the picture taking, lol. You can also add me if you just want/need more farming buddies in Farmville too, lol. Okay, I'm off! Until tommorow all!

Ohhhhh look at the sweet little darlings!! They are sooo cute!!

We call our BR Roxy. Not original, but since she's the only one we have (Other than the 4 male BR the hatchery sent free for extra heat) it works for us. You will find a name for her that fits her personality. Soon you will be sitting and playing with them all the time.
