New plan! (LOTS O PICS, adding them as I go)

SO JEALOUS!! How did you wire it, is there electricity nearby or a long cord? Will they peck at the wire - hope not!

We go out so often and especially it's fun to see how they decided to team up each night, and where they are perching. My chicks just haven't decided yet. We have to get a cam in there.

Tell me what you are using and if the software comes with it? THANKS!

I got a cheap color/night vision/ one with a microphone from Harbor Freight, it was $25 with a coupon, lol. It has phone line jacks on an 80 foot wire that plugs right into a TV and the "camera end" also has a phone jack, they just connect using a coupler. I ran the cord behind a board on the coop wall and out a small gap (that is wrapped in hardware cloth) at the people door hinge, the line then goes behind the wall board (there's a bit of a gap there too) and up onto the roof of the coop. At the moment, we have soda boxes blocking the roof crawl space because our laying chicken decided it's an awesome spot to lay eggs, but are planning on wrapping it in hardware cloth as well. But, for now, the cord is just up there and leads to the under side of the deck where it attachs to the house, and then we threaded it through the brackets that hold up the piping for the A/C that also run through there. At the corner of the deck there was an old, unused, coax cable that we don't use (no satellite going to that location), so we pulled the coax out and put the line through there. It hooks right into the TV (using the yellow and white, video in and sound plugs) and you plug the power in near the TV.

There are better camera set ups so you can stream and watch anywhere, or this one would work if set up properly with a sling box to do the same thing. But it is nice to be able to listen to the girls (girl at the moment) sing their egg song and then finally be done! Talk about finding them fresh!

If course, it took Gerty over 2 hours to lay her egg this morning because she is still upset that she can't get up on the roof anymore...but hopefully she will like our latest nest box "fix" tomorrow!
