New Poultry Mama and Proud of It!!!!

I think it's because they are so small. They have to act tough to boost their ego. I've had big dogs that would run and cower from a bear and I had a pomapoo that stood her ground between a black bear and our kids when we were out camping. I will say that she was probably an exception to the rule but impressed the heck out of me.

Yup that's what I figured. Wait.. A black bear tried to attack your kids?

It was the day after a Labor Day weekend and all other campers had left the campground. The dumpsters had not been emptied yet and it was at dawn (extenuating circumstances as she had cubs up the hill) and I guess she could smell the hotdogs that the kids were roasting over the campfire for breakfast. they were talking to each other and weren't looking around, my husband was out trout fishing and I was facing away from them washing dishes in the camp sink. If it wasn't for the little dog I wouldn't of known till it was too late. Pearlie was the dogs name and one heck of a girl she was. This was about 16 years ago and she was around 7 years old then but we had her until she was 18 years old.

Wow that's crazy! Brave dog.. Do your children still remember it? I would've been terrified. The scariest animal related experiences I've ever had were when I was younger, I was walking in a forest/mountain area with my mother and a huge black dog ran at me, she stepped in front of me to protect me and he bit her hard on the upper leg, she still has a mark there. I was about seven or eight at the time, if she wasn't there it would have been my face on the receiving end of those teeth. The owner just waltzed up casually, despite the fact he could clearly see what was going on. It really stuck with me and now I get really shaken up whenever there's a dog around. The second experience was with an adder a few years ago, no pomapoo to save me, just a really big stick  (Don't worry I didn't kill it, just scared it away :P)
