New Pre-Fab coop needs coat of water seal or something

I don't pay attention to rating cause half the people I have meet in my 40+ year are not painters.

I suggest calling any painter in your phone book. ask them

Thompsons is clear and if in the sun will need recoated every year or every other. as mentioned above marine paint is good, Sikkens is THE BEST wood stain out there( or at least I and every log cabin owner in the world thinks so). or oil based paint.

Good luck with your project I am Out of here.

Good Luck. And just a word of advice from somebody who has already built it. DO NOT put the base on soil and grass. It will rot even if you paint it. I put it on 4 bricks and no warping or rot yet.

On Easter Sunday, we put together our Tractor Supply coop kit. The week prior to our coop assembly, I coated both sides of every piece with AgraLife TriCoPolymer KS128 VOC Free Non Toxic Clear Satin Kennel-seal. I have never used it before, but it was easy to apply and dried quickly. It had good reviews and it was important to me to find something that was non-toxic and safe for animals. The description of the sealant says:
  • Non toxic and VOC free
  • Water, mildew and UV resistant
  • Ships from GA, united states
  • Safe for pet pens, animal shelters and livestock yards
I hope that this helps anyone else who is looking for something safe for their chickens.
