New puppy dying of Parvo... (BOWEL MOVEMENT PICTURES WARNING)

Revival is what I use as well. I get the NeoVac DA2 for distemper and the Neopar for parvo. Of course, no vaccine is 100%, but I have never had a problem and I live in a fairly endemic area with most dogs around here being unvaccinated.

I sure hope your puppy gets well. Poor little thing. Babies do not deserve to be so sick.

She's up and walking around this morning! The house still looks like a murder scene since she is eliminating bloody diarrhea. However, she is NOT vomiting. She made it a point to show me she was drinking water...she walked to the bowl, looked up at me, started drinking, and then looked up at me again. She keeps walking to the back door and looking out the window at her buddies playing outside.

Still not eating, but lively and alert. The Parvo Tea seems to be keeping her calm and not vomiting.

Keep her hydrated. Thats one thing that will take them down super fast and parvo drains them fast. We have brought by parvo dogs before but its tough. Congratulations.

Please talk to your vet again immediately. Your puppy needs more care immediately.

If her digestive tract is bleeding, she MUST have antibiotics, and probably needs to be back on fluids. They can show you how to give sub q fluids at home. Ask them to do that for you.

Also ask about a drug called Carafate that helps to soothe the intestinal lining.

But seriously, if she is off food plus the diarrhea she needs more treatment right away.

Question -- her diarrhea is lightening in color (it is like a very clear looking dark tan now) and has no offensive scent. Is that a good thing?

I hope your puppy keeps improoving!

I wanted to make note to you though people were talking about cleaning teh ground and the whole house, also youw ill have to wash the bottom of your shoes everytime youleave your house (since the puppy is in there) its been prooven that people walking on a parvo contaminated area transport it to other places that easily. They were even saying that meter readers can walk into someones parvo infected backyard, and transport it to other peoples yard that way.

Im sure you also know your puppy is now a carrier for life and can get other puppies and young dogs sick...basically how feline leukemia can as well. Its a total shame. I am thankful ive never had to deal with it, and i feel so bad for those who sell sick puppies to others.

I am a retired vet tech
Please dont feed your dog anything heavy, try cottage cheese or boiled cooled white rice. give lots of pedialyte.
the lining of her stomach is still trying to heal.
I have dealt with 100's of parvo cases over the years sounds like pitty probably had it when she came to the shelter
but there is a 10 day period from the time of exposure to the virus until symptoms show up.
Good luck and if you have another question feel free to pm.

the light color is a good thing but we are looking for formed stool
she wont reach that stage until she is back on her regular diet...in the meantime her bowel needs to heal so NO DOG FOOD OR TABLE SCRAPS OR TREATS of any kind tooo hard on here stomach and bowels.please try the cottage cheese and rice it will give her nutrition and help build her strength while her bowel and stomach heal.

lots and lots of fluids is the key to flush her system of the virus
and of course the real message is

VACCINATE VACCINATE

so sad to watch these little guys/girls go through something like this.
I have saved alot of them but have lost alot too, because the owner waited too long to bring them to the vet, I have even spent the night at the clinic to change the IV's and clean their messes so they didnt have to lay in it all night, good luck god bless I know its not easy.

Sometimes symptoms can show in as little as THREE days. I had it happen to me. I had puppies going to new homes on a Saturday. People came to my home to pick them up. None got sick. I took a 4 hour trip with 4 puppies to ship one to the west coast. The puppy I shipped on Tuesday morning did not get sick. The 3 others that came back home with me ALL got Parvo virus. They HAD to have gotten it on the way back on that Tuesday. The first puppy broke sick on Friday morning.

These puppies were also 12 days out from their second modified live parvo vaccine (Progard).

Treatment cost me over 2700 dollars, but they all by some miracle survived!

Hoping your pup continues to do well.
