New quail chicks just hatched

That’s great! Did you have 14 eggs from the beginning or did you throw out bad ones along the way?

My very first quail hatched this weekend, and I just now buried the runt after trying to nurse him to health.

I started with 14.I tried candling but couldn't tell so just waited.

I still have the 10 babies and we picked up10 more from the local ranch store. The first ones to hatchare starting to get their wing feathers come in very exciting! I have 5 i am watching the color of closely. Hoping for dilute genes fee, silver possibly rosetta.

No just woke up to dead chick I think he may have gotten squished in the sleeping pile.

Yesterday night around midnight everyone was eating and drinking and running around. Got up to one dead chick who looked slightly squished. He was one of the smaller store bought ones but only marginally smaller.

It was most likely failure to thrive. If they're piling on top of each other, then they're cold and need more heat. They usually look a little squished if they pass away from natural causes because the other chicks trample on them after they pass away.

No they aren't piling up. We shall see how it goes.
