Thanks for the complement but a carpenter would have had it finished by now, plus I am using screws which are very useful when I change my design mid way through
. Cool that they will walk up a ramp, I am then going to give them an enclosed upstairs with a ply floor and I will have a gap just wide enough to slide a corflute sheet on top of the ply for easy cleaning.
Well that took an embarrassing long time to finish . At least that is what my wife is telling me. Decided I wanted my quail on the ground so off came the legs. Due to cost saving where possible I used some old wire, not the prettiest but serviceable. Hopefully the ramp works to the upper storey. And put in a sandbox. So to finish, I need pine shavings for the upper storey and sand for the box. A drinking system and food system, lighting food and the Quail. Hopefully picking up the quail on Saturday.
I picked up 5 quail last night and this morning I get to see them in daylight. They have been busy cruising around the bottom of the run and feeding this morning, The breeder "thinks" I have four hens and on roo, time will tell, the breeder said if any problems for me to just give him a ring, apparently the slightly smaller darker bird is the roo. it is going to be fun watching them adapt to their new home
It's good that all your hens are golden and the roo is brown. This will help you avoid the fatal gene that is causes by breeding golden to golden. Breeding brown to golden will give you approximately 50% golden and 50% brown. The golden gene is dominant, but fatal in a double dose.
Can you get a pic of the roo from the front? This will help us make sure it is a roo.
That is good news, now to wait for the hens to start laying and the Roo to get busy. I will have to get some lighting sorted as we are in winter here with only about 9. hours of light but past the shortest day now
