New question about DE

How often to apply. Can you apply to often?

I apply when needed, no schedule. It needs it when there is a lot of wet poo that needs drying up or if it smells I add some todry it up. I think that yes you can add too much. I dust the top. I turn the pine shavings probably once or twice a week. That does 2 things. It lets me see if I need to re-apply DE and helps mix things up so the DE get in contact with the poo to dry it out. I probably re-apply once every 2-3 weeks, but again, I turn my shvaings once or twice a week too and that does help keep things dry.

I use straw, and scoop once a week to remove most
of the poop. Recycle the "cleaner" straw, add fresh
and dust with DE. I thought maybe after the recent
rain, or anytime it rains, I should dust again, inside the
coop, and outside in the run.

Well, once DE gets wet it really does not work. So I might re-dust the coup to help dry things up, but if the run is still real damp you would just be wasting your DE.
