my female duck, I only have 1 female and 1 male in with 12 chicken hens, hatched an unusual egg last night. She has been laying nicely formed eggs with nice hard shells. pics show what it looked like. any thoughts on why she had one like this?

It does happen, it didn't form right now good news is she laid this vs it staying in.. oyster shell, does she have access too? diet? in my experience i keep an eye but unless it becomes a habit i don't worry too much.

I don't feed layer here as i have way to many ages and drakes and roosters so i opt for oyster shell free choice and growers and grains.

yes I have oyster shell available at all times. I feed all flock food so it's good for ducks and chickens. I was worried she was egg bound. Thanks for the advice

Just curious: would it be really bad to feed a layer feed to your particular flock for the reasons you mentioned? What would happen if you choose a layer feed to give them? Did you ever actually do that, and if yes, could you share with us your experience that led you to change your feed choice? Thanks!
