New Refrigerators - anyone have advice or warnings?

Thanks for all the opines and experiences.

I'm going to try to fix mine - DH is recovering from surgery and will have to wait til he is able to handle this or ask friend to help me with the project.  But I can contact the local folks to see if they do have the parts we think we need.

The one I think I would want may not fit my space without some changes in the slot and is so new parts would not be available if it had problems.   So, keeping this one awhile longer until it gets an expensive repair need would be the best plan.  The interior, seals, compressor, etc are all still like new.

Good choice, and better for the environment as well.

I decided not to mention the option of turning it into a huge incubator

Incubating is a dangerous slippery slope that reveals the true meaning of "chicken math" lol

I prefer to keep only a few hens. And those who hatch have to have plans for those roos:)

My dad hatched and raised quail when I was young - it was a lot of fun.

Got my old fridge fixed today - found a new water inlet valve locally for $39 and we got it in place and there are no drips

. And was quite easy to accomplish :)

Ice maker and water dispenser are working, so all is well around here now. So 26 years owning this model and wondering what is the Guiness World Record of a refrig/freezer longevity?

Good deal! I started looking at refrigerators because of you and I'm not impressed by the price tags, even with sales. I'll do what I can to get 20 more years out of this one.

Thanks. I really doubt mine will go another 20

But happy to report all is still well today - no leaks!

Stay away from Samsung. In fact if you buy any of the high tech models, do some research about them. If there is a power failure, it may come back on with power restored but you loose programing. My friend learned it the hard way when his Samsung came back on but had lost programming and he lost his food in the freezer

Interesting - I thought I had discovered all the bad - but never found that one. Would make you wonder if all brands could do that as well?

I had made up my mind if I had to buy one now would have been a GE or Whirlpool - parts are available on all but the just released ones and they get better risk of less chances of needing repairs.

There's a new feature in the Whirlpool for 2016 French door models - the Infinity shelves and sliding shelves that look like they would really work well.

We bought a Samsung French Door Counter Depth for our house and have lost power quite a few times since we have owned it and so far have never lost the programming or the food in the freezer. We bought a Whirlpool for our apartment and so far that has been good too. We replaced an Amana which is made by Whirlpool.
