new research debunks trad views on nutrition

You do NOT want to leave your car (or much else, really) outside for that. The base they use to hold the active ingredient in suspension for spraying will eat the clearcoat off your vehicle.
Location is north central FL - so that's what's happening to the paint on my vehicle!!! In the past year I've noticed it is bubbling up and starting to flake. It unfortunately has to sit out in the driveway year round. It's an old vehicle of 18 years - still runs like a champ. I don't know how to address the paint issue. Between the chemicals and the sun beating on it constantly, I'm afraid it's a victim if the environment.

I've read where one can request no mosquito spraying for your yard if it is listed as a "Florida Friendly" environment, which ours meets all the elements thereof, however, this is pointless as they still spray everywhere else up and down the street. Ironically, the spray doesn't kill the mosquitoes as they are abundant in the yard - about the only insect we have -- aside from a plethora of Black Silk Orb Weavers, which are beautiful, and there are many webs scattered about the yard, but they too are not catching any insects as I inspect the webs all the time. City living sucks.

Since we haven't had much rain, we haven't had trouble with mosquitoes. But the flies... and deer flies...! I have special non-BYC approved words for those things.

I have a couple of these:

that I bought at TSC, and they work very well for the flies. The deer flies don't seem to be attracted to them. Be sure to hang them away from your house and chickens, as the bait attracts flies to the trap. And the bait stinks like rotting meat, so put them downwind of your front porch or any other place you like to sit outside.

We used these last year and they work great for attracting the flies. It seemed to us to attract more flies from miles around and seemed to make things worse so we quit using them - not to mention they smell horrific. We clean poop regularly and that seems to be the best defense.

A useful piece has been published today on the nutritional value of what you might think of as 'ordinary' foodstuffs: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2025/jul/20/overlooked-and-affordable-superfoods
Not denying that those are all probably good things to be eating, but the bit on Brazil nuts made me laugh. Greger's been accused of cherry picking before and here he is claiming nuts might lower cholesterol faster than statins based on... a study of ten healthy people.

And "aim to get about 100g [of artichoke hearts] a day" is very Guardian :lau

I am feeling somewhat vindicated in my diet. I don’t generally eat watercress, tofu or edamame. Nothing against them but not my go-to. On the other hand I practically live off steel cut oats, peas, black beans, lentils and carrots!
and did you note the last para on sugar? finally someone says it's OK (in moderation, of course) :gig
