New roo troubles

So we have 6 buff orpington hens. my husband brought home a mixed breed rooster who is aobut the same size but black. The hens are being pretty mean to hiim, they won't let him eat and are pecking at him, one even tried to peck his eye Will this problem solve itself in time? I feel really bad for him! We just got him yesterday7

My guess is that he is young if that's the case. He first needs to become part of the flock and as he matures will become dominant over the hens.
