i was having some issues with the ladder roost setup i had in the coop.

no one was using the bottom rung, and i had a few younger hens sleeping on top of the nest boxes.

i tore it all down and built this today. i ended up with 2 extra feet of roost, and i’ll be able to open an additional ~3ft of ventilation since these are a little lower than the top bar of the ladder.

the window on the long wall of the coop will stay closed all winter now.

the bars are at 36” high and i’m a little worried with how cramped they are, my birds won’t be able to get up to them. i’m gonna go out tonight at roost time and see if they can.

any input is welcome

The are a bit high for the width of the coop. I'd drop them so that they are maybe 6-8" higher than the nest boxes.
i was thinking the same thing, so i went out to check on them when it got dark

all seems good in the hood. but i’ll keeep an eye on it over the next few days. lowering them won’t be too hard.

that triangle section at the back of the coop is getting opened up for ventilation, as well as the last section on the left wall.

It's not so much the getting up to the roost as getting back down. I'd lower them a bit.

will do. i’ll bring them down about halfway between where they are and the height of the nest boxes.
It's the angle and distance. They are much better with a steep incline than on the decline. Good plan to lower them and I like the use of those brackets.
