Hiya, I have 7 hens which we have had for a year, very settled and placid. We have just introduced a year old rooster and the ladies are far from impressed. He is a gentle chap and is very carefully hanging around them, finding them worms which they gratefully accept then he gets pecked away. He is not very assertive but seems to get cross when the ladies follow me around the field. Could he be (ahem) jealous, as he then follows me very closely and looks as if he is going to jump on me. I shoo him away, but wonder if I should do something else. He will accept food from me and shows no aggression at any other time. I have never had a rooster before. Cheers. Mel..

They often see you as competition for the hens. They are following you as they would follow a roo. When you chase him try to think I am not a chicken. I will not flail my arm like a chicken. I will chase him with a branch. I will toss sticks in his direction. In short you have to let him know you are not a chicken.

hahaha of course this figures. Though it did make me laugh. Thank you so much, I will not behave like a chicken - I will not behave like a chicken....I will try foot stamping, and prodding him with broom...! Mel..x
