I have a flock of 16 hens and one rooster. A friend gave me a beuatiful wheaten maran rooster. How can I introduce him to my flock with minimal upheavel? How can I assist the 2 roosters to get along?

I don't have an answer but would like to know myself--- since I will be "rearranging" my roosters soon.

From what I have learned, adding a new roo where there is already one is asking for trouble. They WILL fight. Apparently unless the roos grew up together, they will never learn to get along. Hormones, you know.
Adding a roo to an all -girl flock should be no problem, depending upon the roo and the hens personalities.
We recently removed the roos from our 2 mini-flocks and replaced them with a young roo while combining the flocks- major upheaval. The 6 month young roo is acting like a 14 yr old boy among the adult gals. Hiding while he can during the day, snuggling close at night in the dark, strutting like a roo when he thinks no one is looking. We hope he will eventually start breeding. When he grows up. We hope.
Gives a new meaning to Cougartown.
