New Rooster Missing Feathers - Help

Hi all,
I picked up a new roo yesterday from a coworker who says she couldn't keep him in town. He's missing a LOT of feathers and she claims the cause is one of her hens beating him up. He's still learning to crow but the hens are the same age he is and he's probably 8-9 pounds at least. He is currently in quarantine but I want to know if she could be telling the truth or if someone needs to check on her other hens (as I haven't seen them).

It could be bullying or it could be a pre-mature molting ^^

Thank you. We have nearly 40 chickens now of varying ages but haven't ever seen a roo get picked on by a hen of the same age.
