I was given a rooster with a hen. I didn't really want him, but took him. My current rooster is just under a year and he mated my hens often and saw him do so. When I introduced this new rooster they of course fought. My current roo got his wattle torn. He has been solice and sulking for 2 days since. There have been no fights since. So the new rooster is head honcho but he isnt mating with any of the hens. Not even the one he came with. He never crows which I am not complaining about. Well, sometimes he does but its not often. He stands real proud but never have I seen him mate.

So why is that? I have 11 lovely ladies with him. Thoughts?

Also....He doesnt allow my younger roo to mate either. If he does mate with one of my hens, He will run him off.

If he's not mating at all, he probably isn't really established as the head roo yet. Or you just haven't seen him.

Give them some time to sort things out.

Do you think maybe thats why he was given to me in the first place? Because he was not mating well? I will give him time of course.

They have a pill for that problem.

I have got a new roo and it took him about a week to mate with the girls. I think it was the girls growling at him.
