He is outside in that wire cage, the hens have been near him looking at him. Did, I let them get too close?

Ideally, they should not be that close, breathing the same air. Many viruses and bacteria are airborne.

Definately quarantine for at least 30 days, far far away from your own flock. Do not let them breathe the same air!
Its so much better to be on the safe side then for you to possibly have to cull your entire flock.
