New rooster

Hi all,
I’m in a bit of a pickle. I have a flock of about 13 including one rooster and the only baby we allowed to catch has turned out to be a rooster (he’s about 6 months old) I’m not sure where to go from here. The rooster had started to chase him and he was hiding up the other end of the coop. I’ve seperated them now and he’s currently in our big cat enclosure (without the cats lol) Should I keep him and try and re home the old boy or visa versa? He’s a sweet thing who LOVES his food and is great with the kids but I’m wondering if that will change when he gets older

how is your current roo with your hens and family? is he getting old enough you feel you need a replacement? the new boy could change his personality once he's done with all his teenage hormones.

We got him second hand from a friend so I’ve got no idea how old he is. He was from a wild flock on lots of acreage so he is timid with us but is a lot better than he used to be. Not aggressive in any way at all towards us or the kids. He’s good with the girls. Gets annoyed with them at times but thats nothing more than a dance with his wings down and some weird noises. He sometimes chases them too

well, I guess it's up to you. the new boy will be a while before you really know how he'll be with humans. but since he was in the pen with the rest of the flock he probably has a pretty good idea of how to treat the girls. if you had a separate coop you could give him a few of his own girls and see how he is once he's a little older.

That is a warning behavior, can mean an imminent attack. But maybe better the devil you know....

Oh, wait... dances at the girl birds or the humans?
Dancing at the girl birds means he wants to dominant and/or mate...
..which is normal and acceptable.
