I didn't realize how addictive chickens were. I started out with 6 hens and then added a rooster. Now I have decided that I want about 2 dozen hens, even though I'm getting plenty of eggs. My poor crowded hens were confined to a 10 x 10 coop, which sounded like plenty of room but it wasn't. Now, I have just finished a 14 x 30 foot run and they love it.

I know! Chickens are probably more addictive than any of the drugs! My flock started with six hens and now (just two years later) I have eighteen. Chickens are so fun. Congratulations on your bigger, better run!

I can't imagine having that many, but who knows. My wife makes fun of me because now I sit in the run under a little shade tree and just watch them. I could sit here for hours.

PolarBear,

I never would have believed how relaxing and enjoyable it can be to simply sit and watch chickens. I think I may understand why, though, at least for me.

So many things in life are very complicated and measuring success is not always easy. With chickens, what they ask of you and what you hope to get from them, in return, is fairly simple. This makes being successful and seeing that success much easier than in say, your career.

When I sit under the shade tree, sipping a beer and watching the chickens have a ball chasing bugs and eating grass, I know I have met their needs. When I enjoy the freshest eggs possible for breakfast, I know they are providing what I hoped for from them. It's easy to be happy and content with results like that.

I hear ya! Our friends used to laugh that we just sit watching the chickens. Now, they all want to come over to watch them with us....of course we make them bring the margaritas!

Congrats on your new run. I know they can be labor intensive. I have to build a run this week or next. What a pain. I can't free range mine because of my dogs and the hawks.

I love it that you expanded your flocks. I am glad I am not the only one. I started with 8, then 12, then 31, now 47, all in one season.

I don't know about y'all, but here chickens are about $10 each, so I won't be expanding that much in 1 season, but I will be adding 4-6 at a time when I can.

I'll try, but I'm not very tech savvy. I don't know how to post pictures, but I'm sure the instructions are on here somewhere.
