Well, Jen, . . . you should take my advice and RUN!
This breeding project will only give you grief.
I should know! I tried this Silkie project years ago.
My color and frizzle projects turned out disastrous.
I spent years in DNA research trying to get that right!
Oh, sure, they start off kinda cute.
This was my first breeding trio from my Blue/Black/Porcelain pen.
I even tried breeding them in an incubator at first.
This is one of the babies from my Lavender breeding pen.
This was early on when I was also trying to correct that problem with the frizzles.
My splash project turned out more like SPLAT!
But they wouldnt stop breeding! I ended up with thousands!
They just keep multiplying! They dont STOP!
I started out with two (2) buff Silkies.
The very next day, I saw this:
My white silkie would always have a brood underneath her!
To keep them from breeding, I figured Id move the roos into the house.
Like I said, my frizzle project was a total disaster!
And they will not return to the coop at night. I had to hunt all over the yard for them.
They would always hide behind rocks or under trees where I couldnt find them. (Ignore the green color. Someone suggested I give them birth control pills. Yep! Turned 'em green.)
You will NOT be happy if you breed these Silkies.
And to make matters worse, youve got a ton of people on your waiting list who want some.
I had a boatload of people who wanted to buy some of my Silkies, too!
If you do not personally "know" these people, I would say do NOT sell to them!
One lady swore to me that she was a long-time Silkie breeder who treated Silkies like they were her own babies.
Well, I ended up selling her a dozen and this is what she did:
Its downright disgusting!
But it didnt stop there. She ended up breeding and selling to other people who claimed to love Silkies.
A hat?! A purse?!
Vacuum sealed?! Dinner?!
Why spread more disaster??! Quit while youre ahead!
