Had a most interesting conversation with an Austalian environmentalist today. There is a big fight going on about the habitat of 'coastal emus' in New South Wales (east coast, guys). It may be that the birds in question are a genetically distinct sub-species, a little darker and smaller. Just for interest's sake, here's a picture:
