New technology in Germany determines sex in egg!

There's been threads about this. My understanding is, it takes too long to sex each individual egg to make it financially viable for the hatcheries. Plus, the male chicks are still culled, just before they're hatched. Not much difference IMO.

Apparently- they have got a fix for the production level, after just 3 days of incubation. Germany is rolling it out full force at the end of this year. Will change everything. http://m.thepoultrysite.com/news/34741

"After meeting the research groups at the University of Leipzig and Dresden and visiting the laboratory to the Clinic for Birds and Reptiles at the University of Leipzig, Mr Schmidt said that, by the end of 2016, there should be prototypes of a device that determines the sex of chicken embryos at just three days of incubation and then sorts the eggs automatically by gender."

Well, that could be better. And the timing is reduced I think. That was the big thing before, was how long it was going to take to scan all the eggs.
