Hi I hope y’all can help me out here, I just got baby ducks and they are a week old already and I have a boy and a girl (my neighbor raised ducks and he knew the sex already) so my question(s) is 1. when they get older I’ve read that drakes don’t need grit/oyster shell because it’s too much calcium but the females do for the laying process (ik she won’t start laying till 4-5months) and that drakes don’t need to be fed layer pellets cause they don’t lay so do I need to give them 2 diff feeds?
2. And what age do u start giving them grit (they are going to be outside but i think I’ve decided to let them roam my yard when they get older and put them back in the pen at night) and ik they find their own sand/tiny rocks in the yard just wondering if I need to provide them with any extra stuff?
3. Last one do they need grit or anything to eat veggies with at a young age or do I just put it in the water?

Thank Y’all!!

Ducks and drakes need grit. Put it on the side. You will not need oyster shell until the duck is laying age. Put that on the side too. Your drake may eat a little of it but not enough to harm him. Feed an all flock feed because the duck will get the calcium she needs from the shell.
