New to Back Yard Chickens

Maybe the other chicks are stampeding over the ones you end up finding dead. Do you have some that are quite a bit larger or more aggressive ? Do you have a big enough brooder for all of them. Chickens hate to be crowded What breed chicks do you have?

They had a lot of space. They were in a large cattle trough. 3 Wellsummer, 3 Olive Eggers, 4 Easter Eggers, 1 Wyondotte, 1 Brahma, 1 Ameraucana. I lost all 3 Salmon Faverolles, 2 Wyondottes, 2 Brahmas. I understand death on the farm, but it was very disappointing!

I lost them in the first week and not at the same time. I was very tired, because I kept getting up at night to look at them. They would get lethargic and then pass away. They had electrolytes in their water. My husband just reassured me chicks are very delicate and things happen.

I love seeing your little chicks! I am still holding my breath every time I go out to look at my chickens and I quickly count heads. I told my husband, I am tired of other farmers asking me how my chickens are doing. Because, they all inform me that more will die before I start getting eggs. It is very upsetting. I have made sure their pen is predator proof and they have a huge coop and pen. I am determined to prove those men wrong! :)
