Hi Paul, it's nice to have you join us!

Welcome to Backyard chickens. The best place to start a poultry education is the Learning Center - above. Hope you will enjoy BYC as much as we do.

Wow!!! Super impressed with the amount of support. So quite a bit has happened since my first introduction early this morning. The wife and kids and self piled in my truck and headed coop shopping. We saw a cute one at a local runnings that could probably house 2 to 3 comfy. One the way we happened to stop by a tractor supply and found a much larger one for not much more. So we loaded up on feed and essentials to get the ball rolling. And then my 5 year daughter spotted the little chicks (THEY WERENT SUPPOSED TO BE IN UNTIL THE 5TH!) Lol. Unfortunately they have a rule that you have to purchase 6 at a time. Thank god we got the larger coop (mind you fenced in acre yard the will free roam and the coop will mainly be their safe haven). So we have rhode island reds, they are forming feathers on the ends of the wings so guessing a week old. The girls want to name them disney princess names. All and any help is welcome. We tend to do alot of research and homework and i am a country boy at heart. We have a deep love for our animals and am happy chickens are chirping into our lives.

Again thank everyone for your support. I have to say given by feathers already forming on the ends of wings and a few starting to sprout little butt feathers they are between a week and two old. We got them friday evening and i have to say this weekend has been a joy watching them in their little brood and hearing their little chirps throughout the house. Getting them aquainted with our dog (hes a bugg, 1/2 boston terrier 1/2 pugg) so its more getting him in the habit of checking on them and becoming the yard daddy. We have two cats but they are indoor lazy cats who wont interact once they are moved to they yard. I have they kids repeating the same thing when they approach the brood so they can learn our voices throughout growth. I must say we are all excited. Now for another warm day so i can get the coop up and get it insulated to keep them warm and happy here in the frozen tundra called central new york. Lol
