New to backyard chickens

Welcome to BYC! I hope you enjoy the site.

It depends whether you will use a source of heat in the coop. Generally chicks are fully feathered by 8 weeks and able to withstand the cold. As a guide temperatures here aren’t dropping below freezing at the moment, I’ve just moved my 6 week old chicks to the coop with their heat plate but they are not using it!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Fully feathered chick can go out to the coop. They do not usually need heat then--about 6 weeks old
