We bought our first 10 chicks in late May of 2017. They ranged in age from 3 weeks to 6 weeks. Two Speckled Sussex, two Barred Rocks, two blue Wyandottes, two Welsummers (one died about a month ago), one Ameraucana, and one Black Australorpe. I must say I have been an anxious mom after nursing two chicks through an unknown illness when they were about 8 weeks old. I worried they would be too cold at first, and then that they would be too hot in the NC summers, and then that they would be too cold again in this very extreme winter we have had. But except for the one sudden death (unknown cause), they are very healthy and are producing well, all through the winter with no in-coop lighting. We are getting 7-8 eggs per day and my coworkers are very happy that I have chickens!
