Cornish x can last longer if they get less food and have to work to get it(exercise). Some people have food out only 12 hours a day and 12 without, so they can't eat constantly.
Others have them free range with their other chickens, so they get exercise. Also putting their food dish farther and farther away helps a little.

Truth be told though, they very seldom last long enough to lay eggs. Their growth is so rapid, their legs and organs can't keep up.
