Hello, I am new to site, when googling a concern about chickens , that is where I found backyard chickens. I have a daughter that intellectual disabled , and investing in chickens , i thought it would be a good past time for her! We now have 21 chickens , 2 roosters born from first of feb to middle of feb. Most are Dominickers, and they have not started laying? They have a big nice cage, nesting boxes, all the suggested foods. Now winter is coming, and I have heard they is going to delay them?

Hello! Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you! The people here are super helpful! I really hope that you like it here. Do you feed your chickens organic feed? I feed my chickens organic feed and they started laying at 5-6 months. So are they 7 months??

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Some breeds are great layers all throughout that first winter, even if they start laying early fall. And some breeds are very sensitive to the short days and cold temps and won't lay much or at all. You will just have to wait and see! :D

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours! :)

The key is the hours of daylight where you live. Woodland California the hours go down too low for egg laying(some breeds) at the end of October. Further south is later and further north is earlier.

Hendersons chicken chart lists Domoniques as being winter layers. They will still start laying eggs in winter but will lay a lot more in the Spring

Your pullets should be old enough to have started laying by now, and the Dominiques are known for being able to lay through winter. Do you ever let them out to free range? Maybe they have a hidden nest somewhere? That's a lot of chickens to not be seeing any eggs somewhere. Though it is common for spring-hatched birds to start laying some time in the fall... maybe any time now. Summer and fall hatched chicks won't lay until spring.

If you give a little more details like exactly what you're feeding, their routine and some photos of your coop/run might help people here figure out what the problem is.
