Hi, My name is Sue

I first got chickens 4/29/18. 8 sexed girls from Tractor Supply, 4 Black Sex Links and 4 Rhode Island Reds. We still have, 8 but one of the BSL's got taken by a large red tailed hawk and we adopted a mostly white ( a few black feathers) w/ red comb girl ( unknown breed). She is half the size of my other 7 girls so incorporating her into the flock was a painful month of a chicken in the house most of the time.

I first got chickens to have clean eggs. They are super spoiled with non-gmo, non soy, non corn, organic feed. Homemade fruit & veggies and what we like to call the taj mahal of coops. the eggs are just a bonus, the chickens are a wonder and have brought much calm to my life over the last year.

We also have a chocolate lab & a siamese cat, neither cat or dog care much for the chickens and are mostly afraid of them. My husband and I live in western NY, I am also a studio potter. I grow much of our food and we buy only small farm raised cattle, chickens & pigs fed a healthy natural diet. clean food is important to us. don't get me wrong I love a candy bar or homemade cookies, Im not a saint!

I found this site by searching for info about chickens and found it to be very helpful & easy to search topics.

Hello, Sue, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
So many people get into chickens "just for the eggs" and then find out that is far from the best aspect of owning chickens. I, too, find they bring me much peace and happiness just watching them be happy chickens.
