My husband and I live on 1 Acre in the Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana. We are older but active. We have gardened for years and would like to have about 3-4 laying hens. We plan to build an insulated chicken coop with attached run next to the garden. I like Rhode Island Reds and I'm sure we can keep them happy and safe while enjoying their eggs and personalities.

I’m new to chicken keeping and new to the Bitterroot as well. My first flock of chickens is now 10wks old. 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Australorps and 2 Easter Eggers. Did you end up getting your RIRs?
