Hi! My name is Crystal. I live in northern CA and have 9 hens and 1 rooster. I just found out that the rooster is not a hen from the help of some of you.

I am new to chickens and I love them! It's been quite the adventure and I'm enjoying learning as I go. My chickens were born in Feb, I got them in June and so far I have 7 layers. I thought I'd lave 10 layers soon but I guess not.

Hello and welcome to BYC! What breed of chickens do you have?

Welcome to BYC, Crystal! Glad you decided to join our flock. We used to live in the northern Sacarmento Valley, in the Corning area. Sorry one of your chickens turned out unexpectedly to be a rooster. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. X2 on NorthFLChick's question; what kind of chickens do you have?

Thanks! I have one Plymouth, black and white kind?, and my other 8 are brown chickens. Pictures match isa browns which I don't think is a breed? I'll post a picture.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Pretty flock! Ya, the brown and whites are some sort of Red Sex Link, a mix that is bred to lay a ton of brown eggs, they go by various names depending on the breeder/hatchery they came from, ISA Browns are a really popular version.
