I was raised a farmgirl, now on our own I'm looking to start raising chickens for laying this summer. Any suggestions for this new chicken farmgirl?

Definitely check out the Learning Center for some great information. If you can't find answers to questions, just ask. We'll be happy to help in any way we can.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Our learning center is the best place to start getting educated on chickens.

Good luck to you and glad you joined!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Build your coop/run as big as you can afford to build it in case you decide you want to increase the size of your flock later on. Very few members are immune to "chicken math." :o) Also, be sure and build it so it is predator proof using hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. There are too many predators (including dogs) that can tear through chicken wire, or squeeze through the openings in the mesh. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Do you have a breed preference?
