We adopted a Bantam roo last fall to pair to our two bantam hens. I love the ornamentals around the farm and thought having chicks would be fun. I thought they were old english hens but was told that my hens were Japanese bantams and so was the Bantam roo we adopted. One of the hens hatched 7 out of 10 eggs last week. The chicks look like a veritable rainbow. Can anyone identify what type of Bantams we started out with? What are the dominate colors for this breed and what can I expect out of the hens/roos I end up with. Thanks!

Looks like a silverduckwing OEGB. Unsure bout breeding.
She does look like a silver duckwing. But the roo doesn't look like any Bantam I could find. Maybe a Blackbreasted Red Old English, just without the black breast? His wing tips touch the ground when he struts, which made me think he could be a japanese, but his feathers are short. I'm at a loss.

Yes, I am not sure.

You have an OEGB mix rooster and silver duckwing OEGB hens. If the rooster was purebred, he wouldn’t have had so many different looking chicks.

The roo looks ginger red, hen silver duckwing. The dark chicks look brown red and the light chick looks golden duckwing. But I don't know what exactly ginger redx silver duckwing make, I just know silver duckwing x black breasted red make golden duckwing. Since the roo is darker ginger red, he might actually be BBR/Ginger red. What color is the other hen?

Both hens were silver duckwings. Unfortunately we lost one in a Raccoon attack a week ago. 😭 All seven babies survived. Three roos and four hens. They're beautiful.
