Hi everyone…thank you for letting me join today. I have had chickens for 5+ years. This is my first time dealing with a broody hen. I don’t have a rooster so I got 4 eggs from my neighbor who does and set her up in a separate area in the coop to sit. She got rid of 2 of the 4 eggs within the first week. I candled the other two and could clearly see blood vessels in the eggs. She has now been sitting on these eggs for 27 days today. How long should I continue to let her sit on them? Shouldn’t something have happened by now? Any advice would be greatly appreciated at this time.

I candled them at about 11 days and saw veins. I just candled one and cannot see into the egg.
That’s quite normal, though whether the chicks are still viable is another issue. I would be inclined to remove the eggs, though other members may think differently.

Whenever you elect to remove the eggs, this link may be helpful - Breaking a broody hen

Thank you for the link…great information. I will give her 3 more days then remove the eggs and either get new ones or just break her of her broodiness. Again, thank you.
