In the Brooder

In doing my internet research, I keep getting directed back to this website so I thought it would be worthwhile setting up an account. I've lived around chickens and other assorted birds for most of my life but only recently bought a house in the country with over an acre of land to share with my flock. The more digging I do, the less I find I know and my gals deserve to have the best care possible.

Recently purchased 3 Buff Orphingtons, 3 Brown Leghorns, 3 Easter Eggers (+1 Easter Egger Rooster), and 2 ducks...1 I think is a Cayuga, and the other is probably an American Pekin.
They were all about a week old and are inside the house in an empty bedroom in a box that my sofa came in, so there's about 12 square feet of brooder space for them. With a little luck, I'll be moving them to an established chicken coop that was part of the property when I bought it. It's about 16'x16' and divided equally into a fully enclosed nesting and roosting area, and a run that's covered on all sides (including the top) with chain-link-fence and a second layer of chicken wire.

I'll be reading posts for the next few days and asking questions where I get stuck.

Thanks to everyone for your help and patience.
Chris
