Hi all -

Well it's been a whirlwind month - from not even a thought of chickens to owning 3! I've been reading madly so hopefully I don't screw this up. :)

Short version of the story - decided after a trip to see cousins who had 4 hens that we'd look into getting some. Went to talk to the neighbor who has a few in her yard and she had 3 chicks she hatched but didn't really want. So here we are! I'll post pics soon b/c i'm worried there's a roo or two in the mix. And of course kids and i already love them. They are just over 5 weeks.

Looking forward to learning more!

Patti

Glad you joined us at the BYC flock, Patti. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Do you know what breed they are? We would love to see photos.

Started with 2 last year, now we have 10 total lol. Chicken math will sneak up on you!

Welcome to BYC, btw. Lots of good folk here. Well, mostly. Lol.

I wanted 10. Ended up with 32. But the roosters went to freezer camp so I'm down to a respectable (?) 28. Welcome to BYC! You were slower than I was, Patti.....decided to get chickens while in the car one day, got home and ordered them that night. What was I THINKING? Built the coop less than 20 feet from the bedroom window. What was HE thinking? Joined BYC and have worn out two computers. Yep, welcome, Patti!

Welcome to BYC, Patty. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi Patti,

Chickens have a way of sneaking up on you...first it's a casual thought, then it's maybe I'll get a couple and then it turns into a flock of 25 chickens along with a few ducks, geese and a couple of turkeys. You can't say you weren't warned, lol!

Thanks for joining us, make yourself at home!
