We're gearing up to start own flock. We've been drafting coops and trying to figure out what adaptions the coop will need due to our below zero winter weather here in Wyoming. So excited to order our chicks, and get started (we won't get to have babies till march/april, we don't want to be over ran before we can finish our coop). Any pointers or tips would be great, thanks!

As far as the coop goes, make sure there is plenty of ventilation for them. Chickens handle the cold very well, and my guys up here don't have a heated coop and have survived temperatures dropping to -17 this year. However, they don't handle humidity well, especially in the wintertime, and it can lead to frostbite and respiratory issues. So get plenty of ventilation!

I agree with the previous responder. YOu might want to check out the "where am I, where are you," thread( in social forum) to find and post on your state thread and see what locals do for the winter.
