Hello-
I grew up on a dairy farm in central WI that had all sorts of animals. Chickens included. When my husband and I moved from the city out to a hobby farm, we thought we'd start small and get a few chickens. At a swap meet we got 2 Light Brahmas and 2 Lavender Orpingtons, that were unsexed and 4-5 weeks .
Now 5 months later it looks like we have 2 Light Brahma Pullets, and 2 Lavender Orpington Roos.
The 2 Lavender Roos are struggling. 1 had tumors or cysts on his head that keep growing and antibiotics did not help. And the other looks to have stopped eating and has no will to live. Granted this saves me from having to deal with 2 Roos if they pass, but the one with the tumors has the best personality and would hate to see anything happen to him.
We haven't had the best luck in our hobby farm animal decisions. We also have a "barn" cat that is now indoors and on a special diet and medication due to an autoimmune disorder. I think our hobby farm may have to limit it's animals as we're not having a bought of good luck
BYC looks to be the support I need for information regarding our chickens. I'm in LOVE with the lavender orpington breed. They truly have the best personalities, and I've been around a lot of chickens.
