Hi. My neighbour and I have recently purchased a pair of Silkies. They were born on June 15th and are doing just fine. We built them a hen house complete with run, sand bath, porch and shades and they are very happy. Since they are young, we also installed a 100 watt red heating lamp that we turn on a few hours before lights out and turn off prior to turning in for the night.

Here are a few pics of the ladies/lads (don't know which) and their home.

Welcome to BYC! I used to have Black Silkies and they are such friendly, gentle birds. I do have one suggestion. I would run hardware cloth over the chicken wire on your run. There are too many predators that can tear through chicken wire or pass through the openings in the mesh. 1/2 inch hardware cloth is much stronger and will predator proof it. I realize that it will be some extra expense, but it will be cheaper than having to replace your flock. Good luck with your Silkies.

Hello and Welcome! Nice chicks you have! Please go and look in the learning center thread if you haven't.

:yesss: Hardware cloth is the bomb! My brother used to call it rat wire! LOL!
