New to BYC. Eggcited to start raising chickens

Hello, and welcome! Sorry that you lost your chickens. Before you get any new one's make sure that nothing else will be able to break into your coop and run. If you cross breed those with the black copper marans, it will no longer be a breed, but will only be a mixed breed as that it what the resulting chicks would be. It would be ok for you to do that if you were only interested them for personal use, but you would not be able to show them.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Who is the boy in your avatar?
This is my Salmon Faverolles boy, Fabio.

He has been fertilizing my girls without a problem. I currently have 8 different breeds of pullets, 11 total. I'm really hoping someone goes broody for me in the spring as I want to hatch a clutch. They will be 100% pure, show 'em to my neighbors quality barnyard mixes!!

Faverolles get big but they are slow to mature. Fabio is almost 7 months old and doesn't quite weigh 6 pounds yet.

Thank you. I'm really leaning towards faverolles at the moment. My avatar is a pic off the interenet. I like faverolles because they get real big and I love the colors. I'm planning on buying eggs this spring to hatch them. But I heard (not sure if this is true) that breeders don't sell their best stock as hatching eggs

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all the information you need to know about poultry! There is always space for more members on the BYC roost!:highfive: I am sorry to hear you lost your birds. Did you ever file a complaint about the dogs? Anyway, you could breed black copper marans to acquire a beard but they wouldn't be recognized as true black copper marans. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Thank you . No I didn't file a complaint. Dogs are going to do what dogs do. Dogs just like to get out and play. Unfortunately they played with my chickens . I should have made the coop stronger

Thank you for the response on the marans. I wasn't sure if there was a bearded variety
