Hi everyone!

New to BYC and so glad to be here reading so many helpful nuggets of knowledge. I had chickens years back and am very excited to be getting my feet wet again. Going for new, unfamiliar breeds. So exciting!!!
Thanks!

Welcome to BYC and back to keeping chickens.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I like the roses in your avatar! Very pretty! Did you know roses are good for chickens? They are aromatic and are great to put in the nest boxes for laying hens. Plus they are high in Vitamin C which is very good for chickens.

I think rose hips are good for people as well. Welcome to backyard chickens.

My girls are going to be so spoiled with herbs and rose petals in their nesting boxes. :-) Thanks for the warm welcome!

That is wonderful to hear! I wish there were more chicken owners who used herbs with their flock. The results are just amazing!

My gram was my chicken mentor. She had them when I was a kid and I begged and begged to be allowed to have my own. I saved up my allowance and money I had earned doing odd jobs for neighbors and showed my dad I was responsible enough to have them. The deal was I had to save up enough to rehab this old coop in our backyard that was falling apart. I had enough money to pay for the wood and my dad chipped in the labor. Was a fun project and I loved owning chickens. Now years later I'm back at it again, surfing the web for the true LF Black Araucana. Hard to find but I shall persist. :-) I'm stubborn.
