I finally joined, this has been our go to site since last year! Still trying to map it out and figure out how things work but getting there. We came to our farm last summer and since have acquired red sex links, pure red dorking rooster, standard golden laced wyandotte roo and hens, bantee silver laced wyandott roo and hens, a beautiful pair of white Silkies and our newest additions are 2 buff orpington ducklings. We also raise Cornish white rock meat chickens! Hands are full non-stop around this chicken house. Look forward to learning more and having more resources to get the much needed advice/help when required!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You have come to the right place for all the fun and learning! Lots of us lurked before joining.

Sounds like you have a lovely flock!! Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask around the forums.

Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. :o) You have a nice mix of breeds. Technically Red Sex Links are hybrids and not a breed, but they are laying machines. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Love our red sex links! They were a great choice to make with our climates. They laid everyday for us all throughout winter, even when it was -30'C out and even colder.

Good luck with your flock! LOVE the bird in your avatar! He is just gorgeous. You may want to check out our duck section. :) https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

He's quite the looker for sure! He's a pure 5 toed red dorking, They are very rare around here so we take great pride in owning him.

I can attest to that from experience. I've raised both Red and Black Sex Links for years and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. I have been especially impressed by their laying persistence in cold weather. Both Sex Link varieties out-layed even my White Leghorns on really cold, short winter days.
