Hey, I’ve been raising chickens for a bit over 7 years. I initially started with 6 chickens and I now have 24 chickens and 3 turkeys. I can’t remember them all but I have a big mix of breeds, California white, Easter eggers, Ameracauna, Buff Orpington, Plymouth rustic rock, Rhode Island Red, and some red jungle fowl. For my turkeys I have 2 bronze heritage females and 1 white holland male. One of my favorite aspects about having chickens is how well it’s paired with my gardening. I used to compost their waste but now that they free roam my back yard it’s turned into planting different things all around my back yard for them to eat and hang out around. My hobbies are gardening, raising animals ( I have 13 rabbits at the moment also), composting, and hanging out with friends.
I initially got chickens as a way to help provide something for my family and so I could compost the waste but fell in love with the birds. Now they’ve “taken over” my backyard and I’m constantly working on it planting tons of new plants to provide for them and my family and they’ve opened up other things to me like raising rabbits and turkeys. I love my chickens and love to see all the change that’s comes with them.
