Hi! I'm Paala.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to chickens. A few of my friends have them and we've been considering getting some for a while but our last rental didn't allow them. Our new one in Hercules, CA does and we have a nice big yard so we're finally jumping into chickens. We did take care of a couple of chicks for a few days when one of my friends went on vacation but that's about it. Actually, we're getting a couple laying hens from one of my friends whenever we're ready. The coop is being built now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None but we will have two to start when our coop if finished and we have all the supplies. I think I want four but we'll see.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I don't know what kind we're being gifted yet. Maybe a black and white speckled kind? I need to find out and start looking up the breed details.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
We found it first after a google search of coop designs and my friend is a member so I just signed up today.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Do my kids count as a hobby? That's where most of my time goes. We are getting into gardening and composting. We like going outside on walks, to the lakes or beaches around the SF Bay Area to play. I also blog about parenting, take too many photos of my family, and paint occasionally.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have three kids, 3 months, 2 years, and 4 years old. We don't have any pets due to my husband's allergies. I am a stay-at-home mother. I used to work as an office manager in Berkeley while I was going to art school, CCA. I also did recruiting/hiring for a couple of years. My blog is paa.la or http://doublethink.us.com/paala/

Here is our coop so far:

Partially completed portable chicken coop frame. This is what we completed after one afternoon of work on Mother's Day. We are using the top of the play house we had.
