I’m learning a lot here. I read online as soon as Mortie asked why he couldn’t stay in the coop. It’s such a relief to know that! I feel much better about keeping him. Thank you!

Yeah, the middle is the one I’m sure is a female. I just added her for comparison. We’re just worried as we don’t know what to do with him. I’d hate to give him back as I’m sure he’ll just be killed. No one cares enough about chickens to find a new home. Even though the place we purchased him from said they’d try to find a place for him. I could tell they didn’t have a plan in place for when this happens.

Yes we are happy that is an option. We’re very green chicken owners, so we didn’t know if that would be ok. He seems to be fairly even tempered, with an occasional peck at the hens that are running around. I don’t think it’s excessive though. I also think he’ll dial that back once we transfer them to the coop, and their run. They’ll have more space. I’ve been trying to give him some meal worms so he isn’t so scared of my hands and that seems to be helping. He’s even taken to a little belly pat when my hand is near him, so we’re hopeful. The advice from this forum may have saved his life! So thanks!
