Hi, I just joined Backyard Chickens having spent a lot of time looking at pix of abnormal chicken poop lately. Needless to say, I have a sick chicken right now!

I am new to chickens - got my first 7 about 18 months ago, and then got 14 more in Feb 2018 - my first experience of raising chicks. My flock numbers 17 at present (1 Blue Andalusian, 3 Ameraucana, 1 Australorp, 3 Barred Plymouth Rock, 2 Black Sexlinks, 1 Golden Sexlink, 6 Rhode Island Red).

I am a dog trainer by profession, fascinated by animal behavior of all kinds. Chickens are my latest obsession - I love them, they are wonderful beings!

Finding chicken keeping is a steep learning curve at times, especially now that I am having my first experience of nursing a sick chicken, named Petal. Last year 2 of my original flock just died (several months apart - neither had symptoms of illness that i saw). I am hoping to get some input about Petal's condition, or at least contribute poop pictures in case that will help others. I will post separately about that.

I am grateful for the experience and support this site offers. Thanks!

I am sorry about your sick Hen!

Many places have free or low cost necropsy services:

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I did post to the sick chicken forum and got some helpful replies. Happy to report the chicken, Petal, is responding super well to meds and seems almost back to normal. Feeling hopeful today, and grateful for this great site!
