New to BYC with question of chicken breed and egg color

Repost your photos at "what breed or gender is this." to get your answers. EE's are not a pure breed, they are from a mix - they are not "cookie cutter," lookalikes. Most have face muffs etc. But many do not, generally colored eggs from unknown breed hens are considered to be EE eggs. If the eggs are olive green - the mother is considered an Olive egger.

Put "Easter Egger thread," in the search box to learn more about them.

These are some photos of my current or former EE’s. Some people think EE’s are a defined breed or have to have certain requirements. They are not a breed, there is nothing that formally defines them. They can be any size, color, or pattern. If you wanted to, you could make EE’s that look like Silkies, Polish, Jersey Giants, or anything else in a few generations, though some might take several generations.

We can’t even all agree on any requirements, some people say any chicken that has any blue/green egg layer in its background is an EE. I like to restrict the definition of EE to chickens that actually have the blue egg gene. But that is just my personal preference, there is no set rule for that.

Heidi, please understand this is pure speculation, I don’t know what really happened. The genetics that give you the Dominique pattern are pretty dominant, barring and black. One scenario that could have created your chicken out of what was supposed to be a Dominique breeding pen at a hatchery would be for a rooster to escape their colored egg laying pen and visit the Dominique pen. Things like that have happened before. But it could easily be something else that happened.

Thanks Cynthia12,Drumstick Diva, Ridgerunner. Great advice.
I will post on that forum.
Ridgerunner your flock is so pretty and diverse. I agree with your speculations. Now all my little girls are laying. It is funny how different all their eggs are even though they all look the same.
This is a fun game. They are all sweet and all get along so well. My questions have changed from dismay and confusion to excitement for diversity.
Thanks for the insights
